If performance is an important consideration, you may be better off choosing the 2020 Lexus ES for the following reasons:
- More powerful engine: The Lexus ES is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 that generates 302 horsepower, while the BMW 528i uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that creates 240 horsepower.
- Tighter turning diameter: The ES has a turning diameter of 38 feet, which is 1.2 feet smaller than that of the 528i. As such, it's easier to maneuver in close quarters and parking lots, making it a suitable car for driving in a crowded city.
Measurements
The 2020 Lexus ES is similar in size to the 2016 BMW 528i. However, it has a number of advantages in terms of measurements that improve its fuel efficiency, comfort, and utility.
- Lighter weight: The Lexus ES has a curb weight of 3,704 pounds, making it 110 pounds lighter than the BMW 528i. Its lighter weight contributes to quicker acceleration and better fuel economy.
- More legroom: The Lexus may offer a more comfortable and relaxing ride for its occupants, especially on long road trips. It has 1 inch more legroom in the front row and 3.9 inches more legroom in the back row than the BMW.
- Larger trunk: If you need to routinely carry a lot of stuff, you'll appreciate the ES's large trunk. It gives you 16.7 cubic feet of storage space, while the 528i offers only 14 cubic feet.
Safety & Security
Cars like the 2020 Lexus ES and 2016 BMW 528i are known for their high safety ratings. However, the Lexus ES comes standard with a wide array of driver-assistance technologies that are either optional or unavailable in the BMW.
- More standard active safety features: The Lexus ES features the Lexus Safety System+ 2.0 as standard equipment, which includes automatic high beams, pre-collision warning, pedestrian detection, oncoming-vehicle detection, road-sign assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane-tracing assistance, lane-departure warning, road-edge detection, and parking support system.
Warranty
Both the 2020 Lexus ES and 2016 BMW 528i come with a basic bumper-to-bumper warranty that's valid for four years or 50,000 miles. Nonetheless, the Lexus may help you save more on repair costs with its longer powertrain warranty.
- Longer powertrain warranty: If you opt for the Lexus ES, you'll get a powertrain warranty that covers all costs incurred in repairing the engine, transmission, driveshafts, axles, and joints for six years or 70,000 miles. The BMW 528i's powertrain warranty expires two years or 20,000 miles sooner.
Being a newer car, the 2020 Lexus ES comes with a higher price tag than the 2016 BMW 528i; however, it's worth the extra cost due to its advantages in performance, safety, and warranty. If you're interested in getting the 2020 Lexus ES, contact us for more information.Â
