Lexus NX vs Acura RDX
2019 Lexus NX vs. 2019 Acura RDX

The 2019 Lexus NX and the 2019 Acura RDX are both compact luxury SUVs. While the 2019 RDX is part of a completely new generation, the 2019 Lexus NX is a continuation of the NX generation, first introduced in 2015 under the name NX 200t.

  • Engine characteristics: Both the 2019 Lexus NX and the 2019 Acura RDX are powered by 2.0-liter inline-4 engines. The RDX can produce up to 272 horsepower, while the NX has a maximum output of 235 horsepower.
  • Acceleration: Both cars manage to reach a speed of 60 miles per hour from a complete standstill in just over 7 seconds.
  • Off-road performance: The 2019 Lexus NX is equipped with a lockable center differential that automatically shifts power to the wheels with the most grip at any given time. On the other hand, despite it being all-wheel-drive, the 2019 Acura RDX was not designed for serious off-road use.

  • Ride comfort: The 2019 Acura RDX only offers an adaptive suspension on higher trims, so the standard suspension may not do a great job on bad roads, especially when equipped with large wheels. The Lexus offers the ultimate smooth ride, with its suspensions managing to glide over road imperfections without the passengers noticing.
  • Seat comfort: Both models have exceptionally comfortable seats, with front seat ventilation adding to the overall comfort levels. Both front and back seats can comfortably fit passengers of any size and are well-designed for long trips.
  • Wind and noise insulation: The Acura RDX does a reasonably good job at eliminating outside road and wind noises, the only minor issue being the engine noise at high speeds. The 2019 Lexus NX is the benchmark for all other luxury SUVs when it comes to wind, road, and engine noise elimination, with insulation that is better than many luxury sedans.
  • Interior comfort: The 2019 Lexus NX has an excellently designed interior that manages to offer each passenger both comfort and functionality. The 2019 Acura RDX does a similarly good job, with the slight mention that some of the basic controls will need some getting used to.
  • Infotainment technology: The Acura RDX appeals to more tech-savvy customers, with most drivers needing some time before fully mastering all its functions. The highlight is the impressive 16-speaker ELS 3D stereo system, which will please audiophiles. The Lexus NX has all the features you'd expect from a modern SUV and the Enform app makes everything easy to use.

Safety & Security

  • Active safety features: The 2019 Acura RDX is equipped with collision mitigation braking and lane-keeping assist, helping the driver avoid front collisions and keeping the vehicle in the right lane. Similarly, the 2019 NX features the Lexus Safety System+, which performs the same functions.
  • Passive safety: Both vehicles have received maximum ratings from The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

The 2019 Lexus NX and the 2019 Acura RDX are both top examples of luxury SUVs. While they are similar in characteristics, the Lexus has a slight edge thanks to the superior ride comfort and off-road capabilities. If you're interested in getting a Lexus NX, don't hesitate to  schedule a test drive.
